About the Exhibition

From ‘Dickie to Richard’ – Richard Harris: Role of a Lifetime celebrates the extraordinary life and career of Richard Harris, the award-winning actor and global star who never lost his deep connection to Limerick, his hometown. From his early years as a gifted athlete and lover of poetry to his rise on London’s stages and Hollywood screens, Harris forged a path marked by talent, resilience, and fearless reinvention.

A collaboration between the Harris Family, the Hunt Museum, and University College Cork (UCC), the exhibition draws on the remarkable Harris Archive, generously donated to UCC by the actor’s family in 2022. Opening on 4th July 2025 and running until 16th November 2025 at the Hunt Museum in Limerick—Harris’ beloved birthplace—Role of a Lifetime promises to be an immersive celebration of one of Ireland’s most charismatic and celebrated actors.

Spanning Harris’s extraordinary career, the exhibition highlights key moments such as his breakthrough performance in This Sporting Life, his iconic roles in Camelot, The Field, Gladiator, and Harry Potter, as well as his adventures as a singer, poet, and director. It also explores his complex personal life, his passion for rugby and the seaside town of Kilkee, and his final years as a revered elder statesman of stage and screen.

Above all, this is a portrait of a man who remained unapologetically himself—equal parts rebel, romantic, and raconteur—leaving behind a rich cultural legacy that continues to inspire today.
